The President of the United States is the head of state and head of government of the United States and is the highest political official in the United States by influence and recognition. The president leads the executive branch of the federal government and is one of only two nationally elected federal officers (the other being the vice president of the United States). Among other powers and responsibilities, Article II of the U.S. Constitution charges the president to "faithfully execute" federal law, makes the president commander-in-chief of the United States armed forces, allows the president to nominate executive and judicial officers with the advice and consent of the Senate, and allows the president to grant pardons and reprieves. Due to the United States' status as the only remaining superpower, the president of the United States is generally regarded as the most powerful person in the world. The president is indirectly elected by the people through the Electoral College to a four-year term. Since 1951, presidents have been limited to two terms by the Twenty-second Amendment. Forty-three individuals have been elected or succeeded to the office, serving a total of fifty-six four-year terms. On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama became the forty-fourth, and current, president. Q. I fear that a trend has begun, whereby it will become acceptable to elect marginal human beings to the office of the Presidency. Which begs an even deeper question: What are the significant qualifications necessary for an individual to serve as a United States President? Asked by Dingo444 - Tue Apr 24 00:42:55 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. you seem to forget that the president, although known as the most powerful man in the country, is only the spokesman to his cronies/advisers. the person who sits in the oval office caught the attention of a shark type person who found a use for him. that is not to say that this president wasn't worthy in his own right. we all have to go through some form of motions to arrive at a destination. if there is a good opposition, it is their job to make the party in power look like the stupid puppet that he is. What three things will you do to make America and the World a better place, if you are given the power of the President of United States for just 24 hours, and any decision you take during this period cannot be reverted back? Asked by sainnas - Wed Feb 14 18:21:54 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. Create a constitutional amendment that a Bush could never be president again. Outside of that, refill the cabinet and ambassador appointments with wise and peaceful individuals who understand the art of mediation and peace talks rather than wild cowboy rhetoric. Answered by heel75 - Wed Feb 14 18:27:38 2007 who was the last United States president to actually go to war with his soldiers?
Q. i'm a firm believer that who ever decides to send people to war goes with them...obviously those leaders don't feel the same. so who was the last president to go with his soldiers and fight? obviously alot of people didn't understand my question. i am asking who is the last president that went to war fighting beside his soldier WHILE in office. and yes Washington was one of those presidents and if something happened to the president that is what the vice president is for, if something happens to him they go down the chain of command from there Asked by Hailstorm - Sat Mar 17 12:34:32 2007 - - 23 Answers - 0 Comments A. umm, none. There are military leaders who go to war with their army who end up being Presidents, but that would make no sense. The United States Military is under civilian control, and the commander in chief is a civilian, therfore a President cannot accompany his troops into war, because he would not be a soldier. Besides, if he dies in combat, whose going to lead the country? Answered by arkainisofphoenix - Sat Mar 17 12:40:24 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "President of the United States" See also:
