We own the acre already, but it needs water, electricity, clearing and land moving, and a septic tank before we can place the home on it. Also there are the hidden costs of any permits we must buy. If your going to put a mobile home on it instead of building a modular (my preference) you will need to find out what size is allowed. Your local city planning department will have the answers. They'll tell you where you can place your home in relation to the road, called the "set back" and stuff like that. For the Electricity and gas/water - you must go to the nearest provider of those services w/a plat map you got from county assessors office - showing the details of your property. Expect to spend 2 weeks in search of answers. Also a shortcut to process would be to contact Local contractors for septic tank installation and other local contractors for driveway from road. Q. I live in rural central Alabama, we just bought a house on 3 acres, it came with an additional acre connected to the property. It's mostly cleared off, partially fenced. I don't want to sell it. I would like to do something with it and profit. I've thought of breeding dogs, but don't like the idea. Does anyone have any ideas about an animal I could raise, or plant I could grow and make money off of? I would like to do something that not alot of other people are doing. My dad rents 1 acre to someone that put a double wide home on it. They take care of keeping it clean and he sits back and collects the rent.
