Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, United States, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. The area features many of the city's major arts institutions and sports facilities, sightseeing opportunities, a variety of skyscrapers and associated large multinational corporations and an array of public art and unique shopping opportunities. Downtown is the hub of the city's freeway network and growing Metro rapid transit system. Though Downtown is generally thought to be bounded by the Los Angeles River on the east, the Hollywood (101) Freeway to the north, the Santa Monica (10) Freeway on the south and the Harbor (110) Freeway on the west, some sources, including the Los Angeles Downtown News and Los Angeles Times, extend the area past the traditional boundary to include University Park and Exposition Park (encompassing the University of Southern California (USC) and Central City West neighborhoods. The residential and entertainment districts are pretty safe. There are a lot of theaters, including the music center. Basically, at night stay away from the warehouses and any area that looks deserted. The actual fare calculation is: $2.65 Flag drop (first 1/11 mile or 30 secs. or fraction thereof) $ .35 Each additional 1/7 mile or part $ .35 Each 47.5 sec. waiting time and/or traffic delay ($26.53/hr. wait). So, 9.2 miles times 2.45 per mile=$22.54 Plus, $2.65 flag drop Add about $7 waiting in traffic Equals about $32 +tip. Don't be cheap, he's working NYE. OR, you could take the Metro back. Q. I am having difficult time finding articles or anything written about this issue. I am sure the government has created tax breaks as incentives for developers or cleaned up the city to attract more people. I can see the new resturants, clubs, bars, and really nice condo's, but has anyone written about this? Asked by gstspyder98 - Thu May 29 05:44:27 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I do not normally promote pay sites on here, but the LA Times has a great series of articles about the downtown renovation. You have to pay for access because it is in their archives section. Basically the downtown renovation is still underway...but the income has already started pouring into the city coffers in the form of sales tax on the increased revenues. And to the xenophobe who posted about so-called illegals...first off they are people, illegal is an adverb not an noun. Second...they bring a huge amount of income into the city, and they are extermely loyal to America.
