From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Health is the general condition of a person in all aspects. It is also a level of functional and/or metabolic efficiency of an organism, often implicitly human. The CaduceusAt the time of the creation of the World Health Organization (WHO), in 1948, health was defined as being "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". Only a handful of publications have focused specifically on the definition of health and its evolution in the first 6 decades. Some of them highlight its lack of operational value and the problem created by use of the word "complete." Others declare the definition, which has not been modified since 1948, "simply a bad one." [1] In 1986, the WHO, in the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, said that health is "a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities." Classification systems such as the WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC), which is composed of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) also define health. Overall health is achieved through a combination of physical, mental, and social well-being, which, together is commonly referred to as the Health Triangle. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How does health insurance work in the US? Q. I am a non-US citizen and need this information to do a case. Specifically: 1) Is health insurance compulsory for everyone? 2) What happens if someone cannot afford it? 3) In the event that a medical procedure needs to be done, does health insurance cover all the bills? Does the patient need to pay anything extra? 4) Does the patient have any say over what kind of procedure he can take? Say if 2 treatments are available for his condition, can the patient choose the more expensive treatment? And if so, is it covered by the insurance? Thanks for reading this. Your help in answering any part of the questions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to those who have responded so far. There is no simple answer. In truth, health insurance works a little differently in each state. To answer your specific questions: 1) No, health insurance is not compulsory for everyone. If you're lucky, you are able to join a group policy at work. (If you're really lucky, it's a good policy and the employer pays at least half of it.) Some states have recently made it compulsory, but that's such a recent change that there's no clear cut answer yet for how that's going to work. 2) What happens if someone can't afford it is... they don't get it, usually. Except if your income puts you below the "poverty level", in which case you qualify for Medicaid. (In some states there are programs that… [cont.] Answered by ISOintelligentlife - Sun Mar 4 02:38:02 2007 How will the department of health and human services carry out a new health care plan? Q. I have to write a bill for government and i need to explain how health and human services would carry out my bill after it would be passed. What steps would they take? My health care plan resembles obama's plan if that helps. Asked by brooklyn_f - Tue Oct 13 19:38:44 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Once the legislation is signed by the president, the approprriate department writes the regulations to implement the law. For example, the LAW says we have to pay income taxes. The IRS regulations say we have to file a form 1040. First, proposed regs are written by the department staff. They MUST follow the law. They can not violate the law. The proposed regs are published in the Federal Register, and the public has from 30 to 90 days to comment on them. The dept. reads the comments they get, and decide whether to change any of the proposed regs to fit the comments. Yes, comments very often do make a difference. I once had a job where it was my duty to write comments on proposed regs on hunger and poverty programs. Once the dept.… [cont.] Answered by Pat - Tue Oct 13 19:56:33 2009 What is the health disadvantage to having extra melanin in your body?
