What gained tension was after the war the British Parliament felt it was important to tax the colonies and help pay back the big debt England got by fighting the French. The Colonists then demanded we want representation in Parliament and the British actually said yes. But the leaders of the revolution knew not to take the offer because they would get voted out every time since the colonies population is so small compared to the England's. So the whole "taxation without representation was really just a rallying cry?" Because the British offered us representation. So to sum it up it was money and taxes that led to the tension.
