Texas hill country road trip points of interest?
Q. Besides San Antonio, the Alamo and Mission tour, Fredericksburg, Perdenales Falls, climbing Enchanted Rock, having a beer in Luckenbach (Yes I found it, don't make me start singing) and touring the wineries, what else is there to see or do in the hill country?

A. The caves are an interesting tour. They are between San Antonio and San Marcos. Another interesting thing that I have not done myself but plan to do soon is the Safari ride. Where you go with your vehicle and animals are in the wild.

Grow any Passifora Ruby Glow in your yard in the Texas Hill Country?
Q. Have two purchased seedlings would like to grow in yard now in 2.5 inch pots From what I read they need to be potted but I want to put them in my ward garden, has anyone done this successfully Would love to hear how and the specifics

A. I have seven different types of passion flowers. not sure about ruby, but double check on it's limit for winters. Mine have always done the best in the ground, for first couple of weeks water daily to help the shock of transplanting. plant in full sun or else you will get a poor showing for the flowers and if it makes fruit double check that it is edible. some are poisonous while others are a great snack. it just really depends on your type of plant. several of mine make no fruit and the others just make an unviable shell. good luck and let me know if you need any more answers. oh, and the lady i buy from is grassyknowlesexotics.com. on her site she has great tips for upkeep with them.

Texas Hill Country?
Q. A haunted ranch house was featured on "Unsolved Mysteries" and it didn't give a location, it only said it was located in Texas Hill Country. The segment was about three cowboys who was using the house for a hunting lodge of some sort. Any ideas? I wanted to know where it was at; if anyone in that area had heard of it or seen it in the paper or something. I figured w/ it being on a national television show, it would be known. Let me clarify this; I know where the Texas Hill Country is, but I'm looking for the town that the house is located in and the possible address!

A. The Texas Hill Country is a region of Central Texas, USA, that features rolling, somewhat rugged, hills that consist primarily of limestone. The Hill Country terrain can be seen in San Antonio's northern suburbs and Austin's western suburbs. The region is the eastern portion of the Edwards Plateau bounded by the Balcones Fault on the east and the Llano Uplift to the west and north. The terrain is punctuated by a large number of limestone rocks and boulders and a thin layer of topsoil which makes the region prone to flash flooding. Several cities, including Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels were sited in the flat areas immediately to east of the Balcones Fault line where rivers flow across it, because of the limits of river navigation.… [cont.]

A. Hamilton pool is definitely a great place, though sometimes, it can get crowded in the summer. Idk if it's free though. Bull creek is the greatest place to me. It doesn't get too crowded, and it's free. There is a rope swing , small waterfalls, areas to jump off, and there are also a lot of fish in the water which is fun, especially for kids. When you go down the creek a bit it get deeper, where people tube, dive or kayak. There is also a very shallow (ankle deep) area before the waterfalls, with a lot of minos where most people play with their little kids. The devils water hole at Inks Lake is also very fun. basically, it's where people jump and dive off of high rocks, but ot's pretty fun. It's been a while since i went there,… [cont.]

A. There is a lot to see in that area, especially nature-wise. There's Enchanted Rock, Longhorn Caverns, Lake Buchanon, lots of great roads to drive if you have a motorcycle or just plain enjoy driving. This website might help you out: It's a great place to stargaze, if you aren't in one of the towns. I miss the hill country very much, it was beautiful and peaceful there, although most of the towns I'm familiar with are expanding so fast, sadly.

A. I live in the Texas hill country near Dripping Springs. This area encompasses soft, chalky limestone to hard flinty limestone near the Pedernales River. This flinty rock is extremely tough on digging equipment. There is also the Llano uplift which is mainly granite. Limestone ranges in hardness from 2.3 up to 7 for Chert and Flint. Granite varies from 5.5 to 7 with the darker colors tending to have less quartz and be softer. Freeze depth in Central Texas is rarely more than three inches. Most winters the ground does not freeze at all, so pipe does not have to be buried deeply. There are trenching machines that will handle the softer limestones, but where harder rocks predominate it is best to bring in soil for a lawn. Raised beds… [cont.]

What do you think of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio Texas?
Q. what plan did you go on? how old were the people? would you recomend it for a 13 and 16 year old to go along? what was good about it? what was bad about it?

A. It's been a few years since I stayed there, so things may have changed. There were people of all ages. The 13 & 16 year olds would probably enjoy tubing around the artificial "river" water feature and the pool. The good thing is that it's very relaxing, lots of beautiful gardens, birds and animals to watch. The bad thing is that it is in the middle of nowhere so it's a long trip to and from San Antonio if you want to take in the sights there or if you get bored.

what chickens do best in Texas and also lay at least 1 egg a day. ?
Q. We moved from the city nd are now in the Texas hill country and are planning on getting chickens. We aren't going to get a rooster but we still want chickens that will lay one or more eggs every day. We want chickens that can stand weather that will get up to the ninety's in the summer, and below freezing in the winter. Please help cause we have already started on the coop. Thanks!!!
Asked by Kay - Sun Jan 18 19:24:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The best way to have chickens that are going to do well in a certain climate ,is to check with area farmers and purchase chickens that are already adapted to the weather . If you want layers ,look for some leghorns they lay white eggs or red sexlinks they lay brown eggs. Both types lay year round and if you get a dozen or so you should collect at least 3 or 4 eggs on the worst day ,after they get settled in.

Thanks!!!
